How to Design a Custom T-Shirt with AI (No Design Skills Needed)

Not too long ago, designing a custom t-shirt meant hiring a graphic designer, learning Photoshop, or settling for whatever clip art a template site offered. It cost money, took time, and usually looked like something you made in a rush because you did.
That is not how it works anymore.
With Smizzy, you type a short description of what you want, pick a style, and ask the AI to create artwork for the front of your shirt. Generation time and output vary, so review the artwork and product preview closely before ordering.
This guide walks through the current process from a blank prompt to checkout.
Step 1: Sign In and Open the Generator
Head to the Smizzy T-shirt generator. Sign in when prompted, or use any guest option currently shown on the page.
Once signed in, you land directly on the design generator. Everything happens on this single page. You will describe your design, pick your options, generate the art, preview it on a shirt mockup, and check out without ever navigating away.
Step 2: Describe Your Design
The prompt field is where the magic starts. Just type a short description of the artwork you want on the front of your shirt. You do not need to be specific about colors, dimensions, or technical details. The AI handles all of that. Focus on the idea.

Step 3: Pick an Art Style
Below the prompt field, you will see a visual grid of art styles. Each card shows a real example of what that style looks like, so you are never guessing. Tap the one that fits the vibe you are going for.
Popular Styles
- • Default / Wing It - Vintage distressed look with grunge textures and halftone dots. The go-to for streetwear vibes.
- • Cyberpunk / Neo-Tokyo - A direction to try for futuristic neon cityscapes, glitch aesthetics, or gaming themes.
- • Traditional Tattoo Flash - Bold outlines, limited palette, Sailor Jerry energy. Works great for skulls, eagles, and roses.
- • 80s Retrowave - A direction for synthwave sunsets, chrome-style text, palm trees, and retro themes.
- • Kawaii / Pastel Goth - Cute meets dark. Think pink skulls, soft gradients, and adorable chaos.
The style you pick changes the entire look of your design without you having to rewrite your prompt. So the same prompt like "a dragon breathing fire" will look completely different in Traditional Tattoo Flash versus 80s Retrowave. It is worth trying a few styles to see which one clicks.
Step 4: Choose Your Current T-Shirt Options
Choose from the shirt colors currently shown in the generator. The selected color is used for the product preview, but screen colors can differ from a physical shirt and print.
If you want words in the artwork, include the exact wording in quotation marks in your prompt and describe its visual style. Generated lettering can contain mistakes, so check every letter in the preview before ordering.
Current T-Shirt Availability
New Smizzy T-shirt designs currently support front-print artwork only. Direct logo uploads, new QR placement, and back printing are not available for a new T-shirt order today. Logo drag-and-drop is coming soon. Stickers and magnets continue to support their listed logo and QR options.
Step 5: Hit Generate and Watch It Happen
Click Generate and wait for the artwork and product previews to appear. Generation time varies, and generated output can contain unexpected details or lettering errors.
Review the available front-art and product previews before ordering:
- • Artwork preview - Inspect the generated image closely, including any lettering.
- • Front product preview - Review the artwork placement and selected shirt color before adding it to the cart.
Not feeling it? Choose "Create Another Design" to try a revised prompt. The generator shows the current credit cost and your available allowance before you create or edit artwork.
Step 6: Edit Your Design (If You Want To)
Here is something most custom shirt sites cannot do. If you like your design but want to change something specific, you can edit it with a text instruction instead of starting over.
When the "Edit This Design" panel is available, type an instruction such as "make the background darker" or "change the skull to gold." The edit may change more than the requested detail, so review the full result again.

The generator displays the current credit cost for each edit. Results vary, and you can choose whether to edit again or start a new design while credits remain.
Step 7: Save It or Buy It
When you have a design you are happy with, you have two options.
Option A: Save to Your Gallery
Click "Save as Draft" to store the design in your personal gallery. You can save up to 24 designs and come back to them while they remain available. A previously saved design may retain compatible options from an earlier workflow, but those options are not offered for a new T-shirt design today.
Option B: Add to Cart and Check Out
If you are ready to buy, select an available size and color, then click "Add to Cart." The cart and secure checkout show the authoritative item price, shipping charge, available payment methods, and order total before payment.
After successful payment, Smizzy records the order and prepares the approved front artwork for production. You will receive an order confirmation email, can review the order status on the My Orders page, and will see tracking after a fulfillment partner ships a package.
Ways to Create Shirt Artwork
A designer can provide a collaborative, hands-on process. Cost, timing, and revision terms depend on the designer you hire.
Template editors give you direct control over preset layouts and uploaded assets. Check each asset's license before using it commercially.
Image-editing software offers detailed manual control, but it may require more time and familiarity with design tools.
Smizzy starts from a written prompt and lets you review generated front artwork on a product preview. Generated results and available credits vary.
What You Actually Get
When you order a shirt from Smizzy, here is exactly what shows up at your door:

- • DTG or DTF printing - the current front artwork is printed using the fulfillment method available for the selected variant and route.
